Birdwatching at Lagoa dos Salgados

Located only 5 kms away from VILA VITA Parc, the Lagoa dos Salgados, also known as “Sapal de Pêra” or “Lagoa de Vale de Parra”, is one of the most popular places in the Algarve for birdwatching amongst nature lovers.

Separated from the sea by a large line of dunes, the lagoon is accompanied on the south side by a long wooden walkway that may be enjoyed on foot or on bike. Over 200 species of birds have been registered here, amongst which Flamingos, Red Herons, Little Bitterns, Mallard Ducks, Swallows and others. The west area is the main birdwatching point, from here you can see the entire extension of the lagoon.

Its natural beauty is truly breath-taking, particularly at the end of the day when the sun begins to lower, allowing you to take amazing pictures of the birds. During autumn and winter (late September to late March), the most common and interesting species at Lagoa dos Salgados are the Squacco Heron, the Pink Flamingo, the Glossy Bay Ibis, the Peregrine Falcon, the Lesser Crested Tern, the Little Howl and the Bluethroat.

VILA VITA Parc has at your disposal, in cooperation with DiveSpot, a bike tour to the Lagoa dos Salgados, accompanied by a specialized Tour Guide that will offer you an amazing and extremely complete experience. The tour is €65 per person and includes the DiveSpot Tour Guide, a civil liability and personal accident insurance, the bike and a helmet.
